How Al-Qaeda Justifies Terrorism and Genocide

Halevi, who prepares research papers for the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, says that in this new emerging world order, Christians and Jews are no longer protected minorities under Islam. As a result, there is a dangerous trend among militant Islamist clerical authorities, especially from Saudi Arabia, justifying not only acts of terrorism against individuals, but also mass murder against whole groups of people regarded as infidels. Their call for the complete extermination of peoples means they have moved ideologically toward the justification of genocide.

"Jihad against America is the realization of "the right of self-defense" in retaliation for the terrorist war waged by the United States against the nation of Islam," Halevi told the Israel News Agency. "Based on the Islamic principle, one al-Qaeda leader argues that Muslims have the right to kill four million Americans, while a Saudi scholar argues for killing ten million."

"The citizens in democratic Western countries become full participants in governmental decision-making by voting in elections and therefore they are no longer considered 'non-combatants.' Democracy is a prohibited innovation that contradicts Islamic values and embodies a new heretical religion," said Halevi.

Panel to offer outdoors spending plan

Iowa ranks among the bottom few states on natural resources spending per resident. At the same time, kayaking, bird-watching and other outdoor activities are growing.

Hunting alone brings in $300 million a year in direct retail sales in Iowa, and supports 6,200 jobs, the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies says. Fishing adds another $322 million in direct sales and supports 5,800 jobs.

The Legislature set up the committee to look into the problem. After more than a year of examining dozens of financing options, the committee looked more closely at sales taxes, tax credits, gambling revenues and bonding. The final list is still up for debate, but Ackelson and others said the sales tax, and gambling revenues, have floated to the top.

The sales tax could generate the $150 million on its own.

Science U.S. Missile Defense Shield Functional, Working

Despite repeated criticism, research development that began shortly after Reagan's 1983 speech continued.

Early work focused on exotic beam weapons to knock out incoming missiles. But the development of ultra-high-speed electronics soon enabled the approach used today- - the EKV, or Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle. The EKV collides directly with incoming missiles, using its own kinetic energy to destroy the target, an approach described as "hitting a bullet with another bullet."

Renuart claims the system, while operational, still has not received the military's claim of "fully operational." He claims in July 2006 parts of the system were tested as North Korea staged missile testing around that time.

Raytheon reported successful test interceptions on five separate occasions since October 1999.

Report: VC investments in U.S. up 8% in 2007 to $29.9B

Venture capital investment in U.S. companies continued to climb in 2007 with the most deals and capital invested since 2001 for a total deal count of 2,648 and capital investment of $29.9 billion, according to a report released Tuesday.

The Quarterly Venture Capital Report by Dow Jones VentureSource said the deal count was slightly ahead of 2006 while the total capital invested was an 8 percent increase over last year.

The year finished strong, as the fourth quarter saw 650 deals completed and $7.3 billion invested. That marks a 6 percent increase in the deal count and 15 percent growth in investment over the fourth quarter of 2006.

The data showed that, for the year as a whole, venture capitalists put record amounts of capital to work with biopharmaceutical, medical device and energy-related companies while also ramping up investments in Web-related technologies.
