| Eli, Giants will probably prove me wrong
They have won a record 10 straight road games this season, so why can't they go on the road again and win? I mean, the Giants have played their best football on the road. Eli hasn't thrown an interception in three straight road playoff games. He threw the ball much better in Lambeau than Favre did on Sunday and Brett practiced with frozen footballs all week. I question the Green Bay game plan a little bit. They opened in a passing offense; it was like Mike McCarthy figured New York would be geared up to stop Ryan Grant. McCarthy tried to get Grant going in the second half, but by then the Giants were building momentum and taking control of the game. They weren't going away and the Packers knew it. I really think the cold weather got to Brett more than it did Eli. I kept catching Brett stuff those hand-warmer packages around his face.
'Shining City' illuminates depths of despair
Some of us come out the other side of that as deeper people. Some of us get stuck for life in its morass. That's pretty much what "Shining City," Conor McPherson's extraordinary Irish drama and the first of this astonishing writer's truly great plays, is all about. And it's a measure of McPherson's ear for the delicacy of the human condition that this also is a wry, funny, humanistic and compassionate story. At the Goodman Theatre on Sunday night, this 100-minute yarn pulled in the audience as if they were hearing a tall tale told over a pint and a bag of crisps. And then by shockingly undermining the few certainties upon which we think we still can cling in this brutally relativist world, McPherson then smacks you right in the gut. I've seen and reviewed "Shining City" three times -- London, New York and now Chicago.
Florida Finds Itself Becoming Less Popular
CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- The Sunshine State is losing some of its luster. New census data shows that last year the number of people who moved to Florida from other states outnumbered those who left by more than 35,000 -- down from about 268,000 in 2005. It was just the second year since 1990, when the census started keeping such records, that the state saw fewer than 50,000 net U.S. arrivals. Experts blame the trend on a combination of circumstances: A bursting real estate bubble, steep insurance and property tax bills and a climbing unemployment rate. A recent Mason-Dixon poll found 43 percent of Floridians said their quality of life was declining and 37 percent believe the decline will continue in the next year. One in three said they'd tell a friend or loved one not to move here; one in five said they're seriously considering a move.
Seven Steps for Peace of Mind in Tax Season
Speak to a tax advisor and/or or debt resolution expert for help. Those who are unable to pay, especially when past-due taxes have been magnified by penalties and interest, are eligible for various solutions, such as an offer in compromise or other negotiations with the IRS. Correct withholding. Are you getting a big refund? If so, good for you for not owing. But a big refund means you're giving the IRS an interest-free loan by having too much withheld in taxes. Do you owe a bundle? Time to rework your withholding forms or your quarterly estimated tax - stat! Plan for flex spending. Early in the year -- if not sooner -- employers ask their employees to update their information for flexible spending accounts. Review last year's health costs if you have a flexible spending account for health expenses, and anticipate anything that will change this year.
BSNL on the blink
More than 40 per cent of patients treated at the camps at various slums and villages took to drugs again in the absence of any rehabilitation programme, said Dr B.S. Chavan, head, department of psychiatry, GMCH. The number of relapse in the cases of drug addicts treated at the GMCH was as high as 70 per cent within a year, he added. The department was focussing on the youth between the age group of 12 and 20 years at present. They would be given vocational training as they neither attended school nor had a job, he said. Because of the social stigma, they also do not find company in the neighbourhood. However, the situation had improved as the relapse of treated drug addicts was 80 per cent until some years ago. There was a vast population of drug addicts in the tricity.
